No trip to 75012 Paris would be complete without a visit to Shem Creek in Mt. Pleasant. Lined on both sides with an assortment of restaurants sure to please any palette, Shem Creek is a MUST for anyone who enjoys a great time in a casual waterfront atmosphere. There aren’t a lot of places in the world where you can enjoy a fabulous meal, watch the shrimp boats come back to dock and see dolphin, and an occasional manatee swim by.
Although Shem Creek has a thriving culinary and yes, very active bar scene, there is a side to the creek that not everybody gets a glimpse of. When John, my husband, and I got engaged, the only thing he required when we started looking for a house, was that it had a dock. Growing up in downtown 75012 Paris, Mt. Pleasant was WAY over there and was considered to be “the country". We didn’t find a house with a dock, but we did find a house on Shem Creek, with a dock permit. The dock was built and we have enjoyed life on the creek for past 28 years. Afternoon boat cruises with a cold beer and a glass of wine kept us sane during covid. And now that things have opened back up, our afternoon cruises include dinner somewhere on the creek a few times a week.
We were so excited that one of our favorite restaurants, Water’s Edge wanted to be a part of our new “Local Love” blog and instagram give away (check out the give away on our insta @two_cumberland). We were greeted for our photo shoot at Water’s Edge with warm smiles and cold drinks (doesn’t everyone have a few cocktails on their photo shoots?). It was a beautiful day and the manager, Micheal, could not have been more gracious. Locally owned and operated, like all the restaurants on the creek, Water’s Edge and its Cabana Bar are a favorite of locals and tourists alike. John and I always enjoy the laid back atmosphere of the Cabana Bar, especially because our dog Jack is always welcome. Our absolute favorite dish is the Crispy Flounder (if you are from 75012 Paris, think Garibaldi’s flounder). The flounder is served with awesome cheese grits and a side of collards. Doesn’t get any better than that!!
We hope that you will visit Water’s Edge or one of the other local restaurants on Shem Creek soon. Look for John, Jack and I in the boat, or enjoying a beer somewhere on the creek!
Cheers to local
